Battersea Power Station, SW8

Battersea London

Project Information

GSS was appointed by Keltbray Piling to carry out restricted access piling required for the installation of temporary works towers within the boiler house, which were erected to retain the west façade. There was a restricted head room of 5.0m.

We successfully installed 99no450/508 diameter piles to depths up to 30m, using 2no Klemm 709 Piling Rigs. 58no of these piles were also used to form part of a contiguous wall which enabled the excavation of lower-level galleries.

Ground Conditions

508mm diameter casing was used to depths up to 15.0m due to debilitated ground conditions as well as the existence of a decommissioned underground web of pipe which used to serve the old boiler house.

Complex logistics

A strict logistics programme was required for the coordination of the concrete and material deliveries to site. Regular liaison with multiple stakeholders ensured the piles were installed within programme and on budget.
