Morrisroe - Marylebone Square

Project Information

Once completed Marylebone Square will provide apartments, retail space, parking and a range of community facilities, including a central courtyard space for Marylebone Farmers’ market.

To support the construction methodology employed by A J Morrisroe + Sons for the 3 level basement, we installed 456nr 750mmdiameter secant piles for the 230m perimeter secant piled wall. In addition to 36nrtemporary piles with plunged steel columns, which were designed to provide support to tower cranes, a UKPN room and a logistics gantry slab.

Piling works were sequenced with A J Morrisroe +Sons to ensure frictionless onsite delivery.

Multi- disciplinary techniques

Piling work was undertaken utilizing two Soilmec SR-75 high-torque multi-discipline piling rigs using both continuous flight auger (CFA) and Rotary (LDP) piling techniques depending on the different street elevations. The perimeter secant wall was predominantly constructed using CFA piling techniques, with LDP techniques and segmental casing applied to one of the elevations. Temporary piles (1200mm in diameter) with heavy plunge sections were constructed using LDP techniques.

Gantry Solution

To facilitate efficient site logistics in later phases a 500mm gantry slab at the northern end of the site was supported by 22nr plunge columns.

Tower Crane Support

Tower cranes supplied by A J Morrisroe for the duration of the project were supported on a grillage with four plunge columns.

In-house Design ‍

Top-down structural elements (for the UKPN room and gantry slab) were designed by Kingscote Design Limited, in addition to falsework, formwork and temporary works designs. GSS provided the pile design.
